Come On Man!

Come On Man!

Hello Vick Dog Chew Toy Fans!  I AM BACK! I took a little layoff during the Holidays.  During that time my focus was mainly on fulfillment of all the GREAT orders generated through The Official Vick Dog Chew Toy!  I have also been keeping my eye on Mike Vick and all the recent activity associated with this unrepentant animal abuser!  Many things have taken place since my last post, so let’s review:

  • Obama?  REALLY!  Our President coming out to support Mike Vick, the NFL and the Eagles?  REALLY?  In the immortal words of Boomer and our ESPN commentators:  “Come On MAN”!  First, there MUST be bigger things going on with our Nation that would captivate the president of the USA to focus on without having to comment on a scum bag like Vick.  Right?  12% plus unemployment, out of control spending, 11/2/10 loss in a landslide of the House.  I have never brought politics into the Vick Dog Chew Toy efforts, but DAMN!  Not only did Obama play tribute to a scum bag, unrepentant animal abuser, he used this ass to play tribute to “giving a man a second chance”.  A second chance?  A MILLION DOLLAR second chance to a felon that has not done crap to deserve a second chance!  People do time everyday and return to society.  Businesses take chances everyday on people that have done time.  Minimum wage jobs to someone that needs a, “second chance”.  And the scum bag picks Vick to show his appreciation?  Come On MAN!
  • Let’s move on to NBC.  Ton of coverage of the NFL and no one at NBC can get their heads out of Vicks ass long enough to realize what a prick he is!  NFL commentators on NBC even went so far as to call Vick a, “remorseful person that has atoned for his mistakes”.  What evidence have they seen that would cause them to make this atrocious remark?  Speak to us; the animal lovers across the globe.  We will give you the real story.  Vick has not done ANYTHING real that shows he has ANY remorse!  His goal has always been to do what little it takes to get back to the NFL and millions that await him.  The NFL and the Eagles have been all too willing to let him get away with it.   NFL / Eagles:  “Say you’re glad to be back”.  Vick:  “I am glad to be back”.  NFL / Eagles:  “After you talk about your skills, say you’re sorry”.  Vick:  “I’m great, I love me.  I’m sorry.  Can I have another pet”?  NFL / Eagles:  “Not yet Mike.  Spit on your hand, rub it on your cheek, pretend your really sorry”.  Vick:  “I’m not that sorry”.
  • The entire buzz is on Vick and his playoff, pro bowl, possible run at the championship.  All of a sudden everyone wants to be Vick again.  Can we not make a stand and realize a player is a person and just because they are good at throwing a ball does not make him worthy of your money or support?  Teaching moment:  “Daddy, I want a Vick jersey because I want to be just like Vick”.  “No, you don’t.  He’s a bad person who has done bad things and has not atoned for what he has done.  Be a good person on and off the field”.  Is that too much to ask of our society?

Since 2007 I have always thought that The Official Vick Dog Chew Toy would reach it’s shelf life; that it would no longer be desired or of interest.  4 years later it continues to be as strong as ever and grows in popularity.  Why?  It is because there are many out there that still stand for something.  No one involved with this effort, either us as the producers of The Official Vick Dog Chew Toy or those of you that care enough to support what we stand for are unwilling to forgive.  What we demand is sincerity by both the convicted and those around him.  We have not seen this.  The NFL, Eagles, the idiots that show support, and now even the president of the US have used Mike Vick as a symbol of triumph.  Unfortunately, those that he has triumphed against have any say, remembrance, or voice.  WE give them that and WE will continue to voice our opposition.  I salute those of you that read and act.  The Official Vick Dog Chew Toy will soon be gone, but the fight will continue to LIVE ON!

Sincerely,

Darren Usher

Michael Vick Wants a Dog!?!

Friday, December 17th, 2010

I just overheard this on a local network news station.  Mike Vick was asked if he would like to own another dog.  Mike Vick’s response was “Yes”.

I also assume that every addict would like another fix.  I guess that every alcoholic would like another drink.  Doesn’t every offender want “another”? Does Mike Vick deserve another pet?  I was not aware, but according to Mike Vick’s probationary terms he is prohibited from owning dogs, maybe even any pet.  The question becomes this, “does Mike Vick deserve to own another animal”? Why would he want another pet?  Mike Vick has violated the terms of a, “pet owner”, hasn’t he?  Furthermore, what has Vick done to deserve to be a pet owner?  Nothing!  Mike Vick obviously has a plan for every pet he happens to own.  Mike Vick has shown us that he does not value a pet.  Vick has proved that he does not even understand the concept of a pet.

A pet is a loyal, trusted, valued member of your family.  A pet is not a commodity, a source for sick pleasure, or a “toy” to be abused or used for your sick pleasure.  This news story didn’t really hit me until I took the time to think about it further.  Why in the hell would Mike Vick want another pet?  Vick is not a stupid man; I don’t think he has the balls to be a repeat offender given the red carpet return that the NFL gave him.  Clearly, a dog to Mike Vick is a tool to use for sick pleasure and unnecessary financial gain.  So why all of a sudden would a sick person like Vick want to have a pet?

Perhaps it’s for his kids?  I am not sure how many he has, how many live with him, or how many different homes his kids live in with various wives or girlfriends.  However, if any of those kids have pets, I am sure it must be an “inconvenience” for those households to have to hide the pets because “daddy” is coming over.  Right?  Perhaps Vick could pit his kid’s goldfish against each other and bet a couple of Chiclets on the winner?  Or he could go get the kids those fighter fish, the ones with the nice fins that cannot be in a tank together, (I think they are called Beta fish?), and fight them.  Or maybe the pet store will not sell him two because they know what he will do with them?  Don’t worry Mike, you can buy one, put it against a mirror and watch it fight himself!

Here’s the deal:  screw you Mike Vick!  You don’t deserve the company of a loyal and committed pet.  I would suggest that if your kids want one, that they get a restraining order first!  Have a nice dog free life Vick!  You screwed up the “Pet Ownership” card!

By the way, the news story ended with, “I am sure the anti-vick blogs will have something to say”.  They hear us.  They know were out here.  They may not call us by name, but we are being heard!

Thanks for your interest.

I Have A Dog!

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Now that I have a Dog!

I have been intimately involved with The Official Vick Dog Chew Toy effort for over 4 years now.  Through this effort I have come to love and admire what animal supporters do.  This admiration has come mainly through the self sacrifice and absolute devotion that so many have shared though my efforts to raise awareness of animal abuse.

I have been without a pet for several years.  I have always believed that if you are going to have a pet you must be ready to provide the best situation possible for the mutual benefit of your new adoptee and the family that he / she is introduced to.  Well, I have been waiting for such a time.  My Family of 6 have been asking for a pet forever.  I have been the kill joy of all their wishes, citing things like the lack of a fenced in yard, adequate room, things we would have to give up and on and on.

My twin Daughters received a pair of goldfish for their birthdays.  Now, you can measure the lifespan of a goldfish in hours.  So, when one died, (cuff died, link survived), I headed out to Petco to purchase a suitable replacement.  Upon arrival at Petco I found Springfield Animal Rescue, an Organization in Jacksonville, FL that I had grown familiar with through The Vick Dog Chew Toy efforts.  I SWORE I only saw cats, which was a safe zone for me and my three kids in tow, since no one wanted a cat.  As I approached the volunteers I was immediately drawn to a crate that housed an amazingly calm puppy.  I was introduced to Oliver.

As a business person I know sales people when I see them.  Certainly, the purpose of anyone that is involved with a rescue organization is to be a bit, “salesy”.  However, their sales efforts did not have to be very good at all for me to be drawn to Oliver.  After a few trial days I became a dog owner for the first time in many years.

It has been three weeks now and my Family and I have integrated Oliver into our lives quite well.  Oliver is now as much of a family member as anyone.  However, Oliver is a 5 month old Lab / Great Dane mix.  Oliver is ALL PUPPY!  Very well behaved, but ALL PUPPY!

I write this entry because I am extremely blessed and happy that I was able to give a neglected dog a home; something that I have been celebrating through The Official Vick Dog Chew Toy efforts.  Equally, I write this because for the first time in four years I completely understand what it takes to care for a pet. Now, more than ever before, I understand the love, devotion, attention and sacrifice it takes to care for a pet.  I have more appreciation for animal care organizations than ever before.  One wears me out.  I cannot imagine what those organizations that care for multiple pets go through!

Oliver has given me even more respect for the GREAT ORGANIZATIONS that care for neglected, abused and unwanted pets.  You can find a small sample of those organizations at http://www.officialvickdogchewtoy.com/giveaway.html

Remember, these are just a few.  Please give all you can to support the great organizations in your community that seek to give our pets a better life.  Also, if you are looking for a pet please look for a shelter pet.

Thanks for your interest and support.

Sincerely,

Darren Usher
