Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

PET LOVERS! It is that time of the week once again! Time to announce the results of the Official Vick Dog Chew Toy Bark For Awareness Give Away!

Week 7 was “No Losers” week. Everyone registered in the Bark For Awareness giveaway will receive a FREE Official Vick Dog Chew Toy. We had a total of 9 very fine organizations that registered for the Bark For Awareness giveaway. In celebration of the efforts, loyalty to our pets, and in tribute to the work they do daily, I would like to formally recognize each organization:

Rugaz Rescue. Location: Tampa Bay, FL. Our mission is to foster, rehabilitate, and re-home abused, neglected, and abandoned APBTs that are seized by Authorities or forfeited by their owners.

Baltimore Humane Society. Location: Reisterstown, MD. Since its founding in 1927 by Elsie Seeger Barton, the Baltimore Humane Society has provided for the care of suffering and homeless animals. Situated on 365 acres of land held in trust for the Humane Society, it operates an animal shelter, a spay/neuter center, a memorial park, and a wildlife sanctuary.

Country Acres Rescue. Location: Manchester, MO. The mission of Country Acres Rescue is to rescue, rehabilitate, socialize and place homeless, abused, and/or neglected dogs and cats in the metropolitan St. Louis area while focusing community attention on their plight.

A Rotta Love. Location: Saint Paul, MN. A Rotta Love Plus is dedicated to rehoming Rottweilers and pit bulls in Minnesota, raising breed awareness, educating the public about responsible pet ownership, and advocating for the humane and equal treatment of all dogs without prejudice.

East Tennessee Pit Bull Rescue. Location: Oak Ridge, TN. East Tennessee Pit Bull Rescue is a developing rescue. We have evolved out of a desperate need to find a safe place for abandoned Pit Bulls in our area.

The Buster Foundation. Location: Belleville, MI. The Buster Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping rehome surrendered and stray pit bull and bully breed mixes. We are a group of individuals that have come to realize that the pit bull desperately needs a better educated and understanding public so that the misconceptions society has come to believe about them is finally put in it’s proper perspective.

Atlanta Bully Rally. Location: Atlanta, GA. Atlanta Bully Education Rally. Promoting breed awareness and responsible ownership

Noble Ones Bully Breed Rescue. Location: Ladson, SC. We are a rescue dedicated to the rehabilitation and re-homing of abandoned, stray, and neglected bully breed dogs.

Carolina Care Bullies. Location: Haw River, NC. Carolina Care Bullies hopes to move toward decreasing the pit bull euthanasia rate in North Carolina shelters, by: dispelling myths and broadening the understanding of what the pit bull breed is really all about; offering support to owners of bully breeds; caring for deserving pit bulls in the loving homes of generous foster families; and placing pit bulls in responsible permanent homes.

Each organization is special in what you do. Each of you are connected by a common thread; a desire to help protect those that may be neglected, misunderstood, unwanted, or discarded. I encourage each of you to get to know one another. Support each other. Network and share information, best practices, and helpful advice. You compete only in the Official Vick Dog Chew Toy Bark For Awareness Contest. Other than that, you all share a common goal, vision, mission.

OK, so now we are ready for the results of Week 7 Bark For Awareness Campaign results. I have to be honest with each of you, I am a Redskins fan. It was with mixed feelings that I watched the game on Monday night between the Eagles and the Redskins. I want the Eagles to score because I know that each TD equals a free Official Vick Dog Chew Toy to help raise awareness. On the other hand, each TD goes against my beloved Skins. I was going for a 99 to 98 final score, with the Redskins on top.

Did it go that way? Nope! Through turnovers galore the Eagles kept scoring. In the end it was the Eagles that prevailed and took the win. Did Vick show up? Briefly. Michael Vick tried, but it looks as though his long layoff in jail and home arrest have left him a step slower. Perhaps that is a little poetic justice to those animals that lost a step and more at the hands of Vicks organization. Michael Vick once again failed to play in to the decision, but the Eagles did score 3 touchdowns.

So, who won the contest? Everyone mentioned above will receive one free Official Vick Dog Chew Toy. Only Rugaz Rescue will be shipped 3 free Official Vick Dog Chew Toys! Rugaz Rescue took 55% of the vote and won Week 7 of the Official Vick Dog Chew Toy Bark For Awareness Campaign! Congratulations again for Rugaz Rescue. Noble Ones Bully Breed Rescue took second place with 29% of the vote.

Wait or Compromise?

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

If you read back to the previous entry, you will recall that we had a stroke of luck. To recap, our initial manufacturing option was shut down due to the lead paint incident, we found a reputable and secure manufacturer, shipped the mold, and started the production process.

Even though we were now out of the woods, so to speak, in regards to the safety of our product, we still faced an unfortunate delay. Products are not produced overnight, especially custom products such as the Official Vick Dog Chew Toy. Securing safe manufacturing for your product is a very essential first step. Manufacturing of that product is the next step, but certainly not a quick next step. So, what do we do based on the delay? Several thousand orders were pending and emails regarding anticipated ship dates were coming in. How do we handle the latest delay?

Honesty. That has been the cornerstone of our mission. Honestly and openly communicate with your customers, let them know the facts as we had nothing to hide, and give them the anticipated new ship date. We did this first through our website, with an anticipated new ship date of December, 2007 and also communicated this to each email submission that we answered. It was a daunting task but one that was fair, open, and honest. In addition, we advertised, offered, and granted refunds to those that did not want to wait. As a result of our efforts, we received hundreds of, “thanks for the information, I will wait for my Official Vick Dog Chew Toy”, responses. In addition, we also gladly granted refunds for those that did not want to wait. In both cases, we were able to manage the integrity of our endeavor and sleep well at night knowing we were doing all we could to manage the orders that now generated several thousand dollars.

Do we compromise? Here is an interesting option: to bridge the gap between product completion and fulfillment, do we seek a temporary solution? One member of the team sought out once again to find a US based manufacturer that could provide us with a temporary toy that be produced faster, that did not have to go through the challenges of international shipping and associated US Customs hold up. This individual was given the directive by the team to investigate the options. However, there was to be ZERO compromise between the product advertised, currently in production, and the Official Vick Dog Chew Toy that was scheduled to arrive in early December 2007. In other words, there was absolutely no compromise to the product and absolutely no way that there would be two Official Vick Dog Chew Toy’s that would go to market.

Why was this such a hard line stance? The core unit that made up Aim To Beginn, LLC refused to compromise. We had a product that was advertised, sold, and a product that we committed to sell. We had orders pending for the Official Vick Dog Chew Toy. To offer a product that, “resembles”, “looks like”, or differs from the original creation would be an insult to those that originally purchased the toy that we promised. There would simply be no substitute. Bait and switch, along with other famous marketing tactics were not part of our montra and we were not about to insult those that laid down their hard earned cash and give them something different from what we promised. No way!

What happens next is the most controversial story that I have to tell. That story is next.
